Continuous Professional Development

Rubicon established its July CPD programme for those working in the community dance sector in 2016. Training is led by the most experienced and inspirational workshop leaders from across Wales and the UK, and each day is extremely well attended by a variety of dance practitioners. Training is suitable for all experience levels and interests and we cover a range of topics to ensure it is relevant and beneficial to all. We also ensure that the training is affordable for everyone, whether practitioners are working for organisations or in a freelance capacity.

"Very important that Rubicon keep providing a place. Virtual and face to face for practitioners to come together under the common theme of refining what we do and to keep learning, adapt, and shape our practice in a way that is supportive and vibrant for our participants, but also for us personally. Great!"

Cai Tomos, HCPC/MBACP Art Psychotherapist, Somatic Experiencing ®️ Trainee

Some of our training programmes so far:

Cai Tomos, choreographic ideas

Alan Vincent, Matthew Bourne's New Adventures, leading dance for young people

Anna Daly, early years

Jan English, dance and the school's new curriculum

Anna Kenrick, Artistic Director, Y Dance, Glasgow, choreographic approaches to working with children and young people

Gary Clarke, Artistic Director, choreographic ideas linked to the production of “COAL”

Nicola Jacobson, Dance and Dementia

Paul Kitcher, Artistic Director, Fallen Angels Dance Theatre, working with people in recovery from addictions

Paul Davies, Rubicon Dance, safe practice whilst leading dance sessions for children and young people

We do our very best to respond to individual needs. Practitioners can select and design their own CPD programmes to develop specific areas of interest and development over the four day programme.

In July 2020 we celebrate five years of our annual summer CPD programme and are proud that we are able to give practitioners the opportunity to train together in Wales.

"Fallen Angels Dance Theatre first delivered a workshop for Wales Wide Training Programme and Rubicon Dance aimed at dance practitioners six years ago. Since then they have kindly asked me back annually, our relationship strengthening and developing. Recently we delivered a session on Zoom for Rubicon Dance's 5th Annual CPD programme. Both sessions were sold out and we managed to create a very special space, which we never would have imagined possible through a digital platform. The success of these sessions were rooted in the hard work, and commitment of Rubicon Dance and their passion for supporting dance leaders in Wales. We share values and ethos through our person-centred approaches in dance, and we hope that we can find new and exciting ways to collaborate and work in partnership moving forwards. Rubicon Dance for me is like my second home!"

Paul Bayes Kitcher, Artistic Director, Fallen Angels Dance Theatre
