We are seeking an imaginative, experienced, and community-focused Choreographer to create a new commissioned performance work exploring the relationship between football and dance.

Fee: £3,000

About the Role

We are seeking an imaginative, experienced, and community-focused Choreographer to create a new commissioned performance work exploring the relationship between football and dance.

This exciting commission will bring together participants from diverse backgrounds to co-create and perform a new piece inspired by movement, teamwork, identity, and the shared cultures of football and dance. Many participants may have little or no previous dance experience, so the successful choreographer will need to combine strong artistic vision with excellent facilitation skills, creating a welcoming and supportive environment that builds participants' confidence and enables them to succeed as performers.

The role involves leading the artistic direction of the project from concept through to performance, working collaboratively with community practitioners and participants to create a high-quality, engaging and inclusive piece that can be showcased at  community events.

Key Responsibilities

·        Lead the artistic development and delivery of a new commissioned choreography exploring connections between football and dance.

·        Create movement material that draws on football-inspired movement and incorporates a range of dance styles and creative approaches.

·        Facilitate an inclusive and participant-centred creative process that welcomes people of all abilities and levels of experience.

·        Work sensitively with community participants from diverse backgrounds, helping them develop confidence, skills and ownership of the creative work.

·        Adapt choreographic approaches to meet the needs of participants, ensuring everyone is able to contribute meaningfully to the process.

·        Collaborate closely with community practitioners and project partners throughout the creation and rehearsal period.

·        Lead rehearsals and prepare participants for public performances.

·        Ensure the final work maintains high artistic standards while remaining accessible, engaging and culturally relevant.

·        Support performance showcases at community events.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for a choreographer who can demonstrate:

·        A strong track record of creating original choreography across multiple dance styles.

·        Significant experience of leading participatory and community dance projects.

·        Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, including those with limited or no prior dance experience.

·        The ability to design and deliver creative processes that are inclusive, accessible and empowering.

·        Excellent facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and encouraging approach.

·        Experience supporting groups to progress from initial engagement through rehearsals to public performance.

·        A collaborative and imaginative approach to cross-sector working, particularly within arts, sport, community or cultural settings.

·        A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion within creative practice.
